Fatima Aden

Fatima Aden is running to be the University of Minnesota's next Undergraduate Student Government President-- also known as Student Body President. She is a junior double majoring in Political Science and Economics, with plans to pursue a Master’s in Public Policy and a J.D.

 

Over the past three years in Undergraduate Student Government, Fatima has grown from intern to Speaker of Forum, gaining firsthand experience in how students can drive meaningful change. Not only is she the third-highest-ranked in the organization, but she also leads the largest team. Coming into her second year as the chair of both Forum Board and Board of Committee Directors, she exemplifies the qualities and leadership skills needed as Student Body President.

 

Outside of USG, she serves in Somalis in Business and Tech and is a co-founder of Black Students in Policy and Law. She also works at CLA Career Services as a peer coach, and is a current Undergraduate Research Assistant at one of the U of M's many Research 1 labs. Her passion for advocacy is rooted in her lived experiences and her commitment to ensuring every student feels seen, heard, and protected on this campus.

Fatima has also worked in a multitude of public service experiences-- with some highlights including her internships at the Minnesota State Senate, the City of Minneapolis, and Minnesota Management Budget, a stage agency that handles the entire budget for the State of Minnesota.

Izaan Rana

Izaan Rana is running to be the next Student Body Vice President. He is a junior majoring in Human Physiology and plans to attend medical school to serve underserved communities in healthcare.

 

In his three-year tenure in the Undergraduate Student Government, Izaan has spent the past two years on Fatima's team, working as the Director of Student Group Representatives. In this role, he interacts closely with student leaders and develops a deep understanding of the challenges organizations and the students they serve face on campus. Like Fatima, he also started off in USG as an intern-- and hopes to foster a stronger pipeline to leadership for future students interested in USG.

 

Outside of USG, he also serves as co-President of the Pakistani Student Organization. His leadership is rooted in service, representation, and ensuring that student voices directly influence institutional decisions. He has also had involvements in Multipotentialities in Medice, a student organization that thrives to uplift future healthcare leaders at the University of Minnesota.

Izaan has also had a multitiude of experiences working in hospitals, working towards deepening his understanding of healthcare whilst strengthening his leadership skills on campus.
